According to information, after a strong storm which led to floods, forced the pilots to cancel dozens of flights and caused floods that filled streets and uprooted trees, the largest airport in Germany was working extra hours on Thursday to rebook customers.Â
The storm, which blew across southwest Germany late Wednesday, unleashed nearly 25,000 lightning strikes in an hour and dumped enormous amounts of water. 90 flights had to be canceled and 23 more flights had to be rerouted to land at new destinations, as stated by the authorities from Frankfurt Airport.
Others slept on tent beds, while some travelers spent the night at the airport hotel. There are still people in this region who want to book fresh flights. Further, the situation is expected to be solved and bring things back to normal. The fire department has also told that that, in the financial hub of Germany, there were approximately 500 operations related to the storm. They said that there were 17 tree falls and over 350 instances of water getting into structures.Â
Also, the staff employees who were not on duty were also called in to help. The storm had an effect on other areas as well, but Gelsenkirchen in North Rhine Westphalia was damaged with a hard hit by storm. The fire department also have stated that, the streets, cellars, as well as the low lying residential areas were swiftly flooded, and that trees also fell and struck moving cars.
At several freeway underpasses, emergency services have removed passengers from moving vehicles. In one area, parking spaces were underwater and only inflatable boats could be used to travel on the roads. Experts have suggested that, the climate change is increasing both the severity and frequency of floods very often now-a-days.
