Queen Elizabeth Attends Armed Forces Loyalty Parade In Edinburgh, Scotland

On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth II greeted members of the armed services at an act of loyalty parade in Edinburgh. The act of loyalty and key presentation to Edinburgh Castle commemorated the 200th anniversary of King George IV’s visit to Scotland in 1822.

The 96-year-old monarch, dressed in a heather-colored silk wool dress and coat by Angela Kelly, joined service workers at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to commemorate her platinum jubilee in the Scottish capital.

The march and presentation of the key to Edinburgh Castle took place in the gardens of Holyroodhouse. The march focused on the traditional presentation of the key to Edinburgh Castle and meetings with members of the armed forces.

Queen Elizabeth, who walked with a cane, has suffered mobility problems in recent months, leading her to miss a number of events, including the State Opening of Parliament and several of the official jubilee festivities.

She did, however, make her yearly journey to Scotland, arriving in Edinburgh on Monday.

The army, navy, and air force were all represented at the service, and as the queen arrived in the gardens, she was greeted with a royal salute, followed by a meet and greet with three senior officials from the services. Three cadets, one from each military, joined them.

Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, governor of Edinburgh Castle, then gave the key to the Queen, who was helped by three service cadets at the palace’s Equerry’s Door.

Members of the armed forces then gave the Queen three cheers before a pipe melody made for the platinum jubilee called Dieu Ragnari was played as she waved farewell and returned to the palace.

The Princess Royal will then present honours in an investiture ceremony at the palace on Tuesday afternoon.

Among those honoured will be James McGoldrick, the UN’s assistant general secretary, and Ross McEwan, the CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
