Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Manchester United to evaluate any appropriate transfer offers for him as he considers leaving Old Trafford just a year after his dramatic homecoming last summer.
He wants to depart because he doesn’t think the team will succeed in claiming the Premier League title the next season and he also wants to compete in the Champions League.
The 37-year-old striker from Portugal returned to Old Trafford last summer from Juventus. Despite the fact that he finished third in the Premier League and was United’s top scorer the previous season, the whole campaign was viewed as a huge letdown. The Premier League’s sixth-place result prevented United from qualifying for the Champions League. Ronaldo will thus be taking part in the Europa League for the first time. He has one year of his United deal and one optional year left.
At the beginning of Erik ten Hag’s term as manager, Ronaldo had wanted to see greater desire from United, and he is disappointed that the team has still not completed a signing. In addition to their efforts in the transfer market over the next several days and weeks, United is still hoping to persuade the 37-year-old to stay.
Ronaldo’s departure would be devastating for United, in part because he led the team with 14 goals last season, more than any other player. Since his initial arrival to United in 2003, he has participated in the Champions League each season and has won it five times, however not since 2018.
A deal for Ronaldo to join another team does not exist. With Chelsea and Bayern Munich among the teams he has spoken to, his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been looking into alternatives for the Portugal international for weeks and will continue to do so, but there have been no serious negotiations.
