Myanmar’s Military executed 4 democracy activists for the first time in decades. The activists were accused of partaking in ‘terror acts’ by the ruling military. Activists Ko Jimmy, Phyo Zeya Thaw, Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw are the 4 victims of the Junta’s capital punishment.
Regional media stated the punishment had been ‘conducted’ but did not mention the time and place of said punishment. Several leaders and international rights organizations called for action against such cruelty.
Aung San Suu Kyi, former minister of foreign affairs and pro-democracy leader, was very upset on hearing the news, according to BBC’s Burmese service, and did not comment. Michelle Bachelet, UNHRC chief called the punishment a “cruel and regressive step”. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted his condemnation.
