According to Ukraine’s defence minister, the country has received more multiple rocket launcher systems built in Germany and the United States as part of a series of high-precision heavy weapon deliveries that its allies had pledged.
As it attempts to stem the tide of Russia’s invasion on February 24 and assault Russian supply lines and ammo dumps, the administration in Kyiv has repeatedly begged the West to deliver more long-range artillery.
The provision of longer-range weapons, according to Moscow, justifies Russia’s ambitions to gain control over more Ukrainian territory for its own defence. Moscow has accused the West of prolonging the conflict by arming Ukraine.
HIMARS can hit Russian targets that were previously inaccessible since they have a greater range and more accuracy than Ukraine’s rocket artillery from the Soviet era.
Experts estimate that Ukraine already has up to 12 HIMARS units operational. Additionally, three MARS II MLRS—the German equivalent of the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System—have been sent to the Ukrainian military. On July 26, German Minister of Defense Christina Lambrecht announced the delivery.
German Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers have so far been delivered to Ukraine. On July 26, Lambrecht also disclosed the arrival of five Gepard anti-aircraft systems.
In order to oppose Russian soldiers, Kyiv has previously stated that it needs 1,000 howitzers, 500 tanks, and 1,000 drones.
The United States, Britain, France, Norway, and Poland are other nations that have given Ukraine artillery equipment.
