Union Cabinet Approved To Promote India-Australia Co-Production Of Films

As per Sources, The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the signing of an audio-visual co-production agreement between India and Australia on Wednesday in an effort to promote movie co-production.

These comprehensive agreements are utilised when private, quasi-public, or government agencies establish joint filmmaking arrangements. Audio-visual co-production agreements allow for the co-production of films between two nations.

Number of agreements Signed by India on Audio-Visual :

India and other countries have signed 15 agreements so far to co-produce audiovisual works. Australia has frequently been used as a filming location for Indian movies. India is quickly developing into a big content powerhouse for filmmakers looking for new projects. Due of its talent, India is a desirable location for foreign filmmakers.

According to the co-production treaty, each country’s producers may contribute anywhere between 20% and 80% of the co-production project’s overall cost. The proposed agreement, according to a government statement, will promote cultural exchange, highlight our country’s soft power, strengthen ties with Australia, and create employment for artistic, technical, and quasi persons involved in audio visual co-production, such as production and post-production work.

Using places in India will increase the possibility that the country will be selected as a preferred site for filming and will result in an influx of foreign revenue into the country, the statement stated. In order to reach agreements on film co-production and content sharing in 2019, the ministry of information and broadcasting met with a delegation from Bangladesh.

The main topic of discussion at the conference was the creation of a feature film about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a politician and statesman from Bangladesh, to be produced jointly by both nations and directed by Shyam Benegal and Atul Tiwari.
