According to reporting on Saturday, the guy suspected of assaulting Salman Rushdie has been charged with second-degree attempted murder as well as second-degree assault.
Just after assault on Friday, the 24-year-old Hadi Matar was moved from the New York State Police barracks in Jamestown to the Chautauqua County Jail in upstate New York. The arraignment of Matar was planned for Saturday.
He is being held without bond.
According to Reuters, county district attorney Jason Schmidt said state and federal authorities in New York and New Jersey are still investigating into whether Matar may have made any plans or preparations prior to the assault, which if discovered might lead to further charges.
Rushdie, who was stabbed in the neck, is mute and was last seen using a ventilator, according to reports.
