Russia Blocks The Final Declaration To Review Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

According to Sources, Russia has vetoed the joint conclusion of the tenth UN conference to review the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which was held here in New York. After the meeting ended, Gustavo Zlauvinen, the conference’s chairman, expressed his regret that a deal could not be reached.

At the four-week conference, certain countries and non-governmental organisations hoped to establish legally binding deadlines for the disposal of all nuclear weapons. The Russian representative, without going into more detail, noted that his country disagreed with five points in the final agreement and that other countries agreed.

After the Russian statement was made, representatives from other countries said they agreed with it, but they also expressed their frustration that no compromise could be achieved.

A third Russian official, on the other side, voiced his disappointment that other guests had used the gathering to settle scores with Russia for the situation in Ukraine instead of advocating for nuclear disarmament.

First Day of the Conference :

The first day of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference was held in New York. The treaty, which became operative in 1970, has currently been ratified by 191 countries worldwide. It seeks to deplete the nuclear stockpile. The five declared nuclear powers are the US, China, the UK, France, and Russia, and critics argue that these nations are subject to different laws than the signatories who do not have nuclear weapons.

North Korea, India, Pakistan, Israel, and other nations are all said to possess nuclear weapons, according to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), but they have not ratified the agreement. By 2022, a total of 12,700 nuclear warheads deployed worldwide, predicts FAS. When the Cold War was at its worst, in 1986, there were reportedly 70,300 weapons on the planet.
