The United States Frances Tiafoe defeated Rafael Nadal in an exciting four-set encounter on Tuesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, ending the Spaniard’s remarkable Grand Slam winning streak in 2022. Nadal went 22-0 in the year’s Slam competition, taking home the Australian Open and French Open.
Thus, Tiafoe won over Nadal for the first time in a Grand Slam Tournament since Novak Djokovic did it at Roland Garros in 2021, completing his chase for a historical 23rd Grand Slam and a record-tying sixth triumph at Flushing Meadows.
Tiafoe’s victory, which was his biggest to date, made him the third American to defeat Nadal 6-4 4-6 6-4 6-3 in a Grand Slam, joining Andy Roddick in 2004 and James Blake in 2005. He also created history by being the first player from his country to advance to the US Open quarterfinals since Roddick accomplished it 18 years ago.
Frances Tiafoe has qualified for the quarterfinals and will be playing against 9th seeded Andrey Rublev, who defeated Briton Cameron earlier in the day. Frances Tiafoe will be geared up for tomorrow’s quarterfinals game.
