Iga Swiatek, the current world No. 1, gave herself a chance to win a third Grand Slam title in her career on Friday after pulling off two stunning turnarounds on Arthur Ashe Stadium during their semifinal battle against Aryna Sabalenka. Iga Swiatek reached her first US Open Championship Match.
In the US Open Finals, she will be up against against Ons Jabeur, who had previously upset Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 to reach her second Slam final of her career, the two-time major champion, Swiatek defeated Sabalenka 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the US Open semifinals and advanced to the finals.
Iga Swiatek dominated the beginning of the year, marked by her record-breaking 37-match winning run that came to an end in her second major at the French Open, but she wasn’t the overwhelming favourite in Flushing Meadows. Iga Swiatek, who was 4-4 going into Wimbledon but never made it past the quarterfinals, has battled to find her groove since losing in the third round.
The incredible 2022 of Swiatek, though, continued as she defeated Sabalenka four times in a straight to get to her third Grand Slam final. Iga Swiatek has a 2-0 record in Slam finals after winning in Paris in 2020 and 2022. Iga Swiatek will be eager to win her third Grand Slam Title.
