A fascinating image of a bright dot shining in the middle of an Earth desert has been shared by an astronaut aboard the International Space Station.
While shimmering city lights can be seen by astronauts in space at night, it is considerably more unusual to observe patches of light above the Earth during the day. The 45-year-old astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti of the European Space Agency tweeted images and a brief description of the phenomenon after spotting it.
“Interesting view! The Italian astronaut tweeted on Thursday, “A bright dot in the Negev desert.” “It’s very strange to see artificial lights during the day!
One technology to obtain renewable energy from the Sun is the concentrated solar power plant with one of the tallest in the world.
According to Cristoforetti, the bright spot was caused by the Ashalim Solar Thermal Power Station in the Negev desert of Israel, which utilises mirrors to focus sunlight on an 820-foot-tall tower. One of the tallest solar power towers in the world is this one.
