Biden unveils a new $700 million military assistance package for Ukraine

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden unveiled a fresh $700 million weapons package for Ukraine, which will include high mobility artillery rocket launchers that can reach targets up to 80 kilometres distant with pinpoint accuracy (50 miles).

In a statement, Biden stated, “The United States will stand with our Ukrainian friends and continue to give Ukraine with weapons and equipment to defend itself.”
After gaining assurances from Kyiv that they would not be used to hit targets inside Russian territory, Biden revealed the proposal to deliver Ukraine precision HIMARS rocket weapons. To prevent exacerbating the Ukraine conflict, Biden imposed the stipulation.

At a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, “The Ukrainians have assured us that they will not use these systems against targets on Russian territory.”

According to a senior Defense Department official briefing reporters at the Pentagon, the US will first transfer four HIMARS systems to Ukraine.

According to the official, training Ukrainian forces on how to utilise the new technologies will take roughly three weeks.
