“Cocaine King Of Milan” Rocco Morabito Extradicted To Italy

Following his extradition from Brazil after 28 years on the run, a convicted gangster who was one of Italy’s most wanted fugitives and reportedly one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world has arrived in Rome.

Morabito, also known as the “cocaine king of Milan,” was detained in May of last year after a combined Brazilian-Italian police investigation. For narcotics trafficking, the 55-year-old will spend 30 years in jail.

The mafia boss used a fake identity while hiding underground in South America for decades. He was ultimately located by police last year in Joo Pessoa, a port city in northeastern Brazil, where he was detained with Vincenzo Pasquino, another Ndrangheta mafia member. Since then, Pasquino has been given a 17-year prison term for narcotics trafficking.

A long-running manhunt comes to an end with Rocco Morabito’s arrival in Rome.
Rocco Morabito, a significant player in the ‘Ndrangheta, the vast criminal organisation that dominates much of the cocaine trafficking in Italy and overseas, was born in the Calabrian town of Africa and has links to mafia leader Giuseppe Morabito.

Morabito established important cocaine smuggling lines from South America into Milan as a young guy, quickly becoming known as a prominent drug dealer in the city.

He was imprisoned for two years in 2019 while awaiting extradition to Italy until he and three other prisoners made their escape via a hole in the ceiling.

He was eventually located in a hotel in the city of Joo Pessoa in 2021 as part of a global police operation led by Interpol with the goal of stopping the ‘Ndrangheta.

Last Thursday, the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil authorised his extradition to Italy.
