ICJ to rule on Objections from Myanmar towards Rohingya Genocide Trial

The International Court of Justice will announce the ruling on preliminary objections presented by Myanmar towards the Rohingya Genocide trial on Friday. President of ICJ Judge Joan E. Donoghue is scheduled to disclose the verdict on 1 PM GMT.

Objections from Myanmar were discussed in court in February. Their specific objections have not been released to the public. Advocates expressed their annoyance with the ICJ taking longer than necessary to deal with the case. Tun Khin, president of Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK called it ‘a delaying tactic’ and ‘disappointing’.

“These objections were nothing more than a delaying tactic and it is disappointing that the ICJ has taken a year and a half to make its decision. The genocide is ongoing and it is vital that the court doesn’t allow any further delays.”
