The ranked number one seeded in women’s tennis, Iga Swiatek, thrashed Jessica Pegula of United States 6-3, 7-6(4) on Thursday and has qualified for the Semifinals of the US Open for the first time ever.
The top-seeded French Open winner raised her fist in celebration after victory, putting an end to any doubts about whether she would still be the best player in the world when the competition was through.
Despite winning, the Pole is still trying to regain her dominant form from previously this year, when she embarked on a 37-match unbeaten run. The eighth-seeded Pegula broke the 21-year-old twice in the second set, which prevented her from serving out the match.
Iga Swaitek is on her unbeaten run and has qualified for the semi finals where she will be facing 6th seeded A. Sabalenka tomorrow. She will be determined and focus as she will be facing an equally tough opponent in the women’s singles US Open 2022.
