In a dramatic Asia Cup Super 4 encounter, Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by one wicket to knockout India from the tournament. In the penultimate over, right-arm bowler Naseem Shah struck two significant sixes. Afghanistan comfortably controlled the game after Pakistan was restricted to 118 for nine in the last over.
However, Naseem had other plans, blasting Fazalhaq Farooqi for two consecutive sixes to knock Afghanistan and India out of contention for a spot in the final. With two victories in as many games, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have both secured their places in the Sunday final of the event. India and Afghanistan will play each other in the final Super 4 matchup on Thursday.
Pakistan had a difficult time chasing their target and lost skipper Babar Azam (0) early when the batter experienced yet another setback and was caught LBW by Fazalhaq Farooqi (3/31) in the first ball of the innings. But, in the end they chased it in a very close encounter.
Afghanistan, after put into bat, made an excellent start in the first 4 overs, after which pakistan pace and spin bowlers took control and kept taking wickets and restricted them to a total of 129 for 6 in their 20 overs. Shadab Khan was named Man of the Match for his well made 36 and picking one wicket in the first innings.
