Barring any unforeseen conditions, the Sri Lankan lineup for the upcoming T20 World Cup will contain Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, who both missed the Asia Cup due to injuries. The remaining 13 players were all part of Sri Lanka’s larger team for the recently finished Asia Cup, in which Sri Lanka emerged as winners by beating Pakistan in the Finals.
Dinesh Chandimal, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwanindu Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Nuwan Thushara were all on the Asia Cup squad but were not selected for the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka Cricket also named five players to serve as standbys in addition to the 15 player squad.
For the first round of the T20 World Cup, Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Namibia, and the United Arab Emirates. Only the top two teams from Groups A and B, which comprise Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe, will advance to the Super 12 stage.
