The Great Migration of Animals Started in Masai Mara, Kenya

Thousands of wild beasts are on their way from Tanzania to Kenya by crossing the sand river.
Tourists and photographers flock from all over the world to see and capture this beautiful site. The great migration season is from July to September.

ABOUT MASAI MARA

The Masai Mara is contiguous with the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania. It is called Masai Mara due to the short bushy trees that dot the landscape here the there.

WHAT IS WILDEBEEST MIGRATION?

  • One of the most phenomenal natural spectacles in the world.
  • It is a yearly movement by millions of wild beasts accompanied by a large number of zebras, Impalas, Giant’s Gazelle, Elands, and Thompson gazelle, across the greater Masai Mara Serengeti ecosystem.
  • From July to September the Mara welcome the great Migration of 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti in Tanzania to Masai Mara in Kenya.
  • The herd travel to 800 km orbiting in a circle throughout the Serengeti, and Masai Mara ecosystem in search of green mineral-rich pastures and water bodies.

TIMELINE OF THEIR MIGRATION

JULY: In the search for food and water.
AUGUST: Hunting Party by cats.
SEPTEMBER: The herds enjoy relative peace on the Plains.
OCTOBER: The rain begins to fall by November the word and restarts to the Serengeti and it is the continual cycle of the great migration.
