The index was developed by the research team at Henley & Partners and is based exclusively on information from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most reliable source of travel-related statistics. The Henley Passport Index, the only one of its type based on unique data from the International Air Transport Authority, has historical data going back 17 years (IATA). The index lists 227 unique travel places and 199 unique passports.
