The US announces a new USD 775 million arms deal with Ukraine

The US Defense Department stated on Friday that it would give Ukraine fresh military support for USD 775 million, including HIMARS missiles, artillery, and mine-clearing devices.

A senior defence official announced that the shipment would be despatched via the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA).

As part of this assistance, the US will provide Ukraine with 1,500 tube-launched optically tracked wire-guided missiles (TOW missiles), 40 mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAPs), 15 Scan Eagle drones to aid in targeting reconnaissance for Ukraine’s artillery, High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARMs) for Ukraine to target Russian radars, and 40 MRAPs to allow the Ukrainians to move through mined areas.

With the addition of this most recent tranche, the Biden administration has now given Ukraine nearly USD 10 billion in security aid. Since August 2021, the department has given Ukraine a total of 19 PDA packages.

Ahead of the continuing battle with Russia, the US declared on August 8 that it will provide Ukraine with USD 1 billion in security aid to satisfy its urgent security and defence needs.

Since August 2021, the Biden administration has authorised eighteen equipment withdrawals for Ukraine from DoD stocks. The new package comprises 50 armoured medical treatment trucks, 75,000 rounds of 155 mm artillery ammunition, and ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
