To Gain International Acceptance, First Respect Human Rights : U.S. To TALIBAN

The US will hold the Taliban accountable for their vows not to turn Afghanistan into a haven for terrorists, particularly the Khorasan branch of ISIS and al-Qaeda, according to Ian McCary, the head of the US operation in Afghanistan.

“Over the past year, we have pursued dialogue with the Taliban in Doha to resolve critical issues, we have significantly assisted US Citizens, LPRs, and others working with the Afghan people”.

McCary said that, “The numerous challenges we are still facing in Afghanistan humble me. I’m pleased that over the past year, we have helped numerous Afghans both domestically and abroad.

He expressed disappointment over reports of violations of Human Rights, including the deterioration of media independence, unreasonable restrictions on the rights of women, and the Taliban’s continuing refusal to let girls to enrol in secondary schools.

What did McCary say :

McCary added, ” Taliban must listen to, honour, and respect the views of the Afghan people and uphold human rights if they expect to achieve the acknowledgment of the world community.” McCary expressed his appreciation for the remarkable support of international partners and the like-minded society.

The United States continues to be the greatest donor to foreign relief efforts in Afghanistan, according to McCary, who stated that since August 15, 2021, we have given more than $775 million in aid. Along with the UN and other international organisations, the United States has organised humanitarian aid.

“We keep on working closely with our allies to stabilise the Afghan economy. The US Department of Treasury has granted numerous general licences to facilitate trade and vital help to the Afghan people”.

Further he added that, as the Charge d’ Affaires of the US Mission in Afghanistan since August 21, McCary is closing up his responsibilities this week. “We are grateful for the State of Qatar’s kind support as our strategic partner”.

McCary stated that, Karen Decker, Director of the Afghanistan Operations for the Afghan Migration Efforts, will take over McCary’s position as Chief of Mission for the US Embassy in Kabul. “Under Karen Decker’s administration, who will succeed me, we will remain committed to the Afghan people. Karen and Afghanistan have a long history of friendship, and she will work tirelessly to advance both American interests and Afghani interests”.
