In the US, about 550 female customers have filed lawsuits against the ridesharing company Uber, claiming that its drivers abused them through kidnapping, rape, and other physical assaults. The case was submitted to the San Francisco County Superior Court and asked for a jury trial and damages.
According to a court document, the ladies claimed that Uber drivers had abducted, sexually assaulted, beat, raped, unjustly imprisoned, stalked, bullied, and otherwise abused them.
As per the complaint, Uber has been purposefully hiding the fact that its drivers have been repeatedly attacking women since at least 2014 and has instead, portrayed that “Uber was a safe mode of transportation.”
In addition, the complaint claimed that Uber intentionally provided a platform for sexual predators to track down and abuse women without adequately screening its drivers or offering clients enough safety precautions.
According to Uber’s most recent US safety report, there were 998 cases of sexual assault in 2020 alone, including 141 rape complaints.
Uber received 3,824 reports of the five most serious types of sexual assault between 2019 and 2020.
In its first safety report, Uber identified nearly 6,000 claims of sexual assault among its occurrences from 2017 to 2018.

Such a big corporation should be able to deal with safety of passengers as the passengers are of utmost importance to them. What a pity.
