World Athletics Championships: Britain’s Jake Wightman Wins A Thriller of a men’s 1500m

At the World Athletics Championships, Britain’s athlete Jake Wightman upset Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen to win the men’s 1500-meter race in a thrilling finish.

The 28-year-old overtook Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the last stride and won the race in three minutes, 29.23 seconds.

Since Steve Cram in 1983, he is the first British man to win the 1500-meter world championship.

Ingebrigtsen won silver in 3:29.47, and Mohamed Katir of Spain took home the bronze (3:29.90).

Geoff Wightman, the father of Wightman, was able to broadcast his son’s triumph since he is the stadium announcer in Eugene.

Running is coming home. Wow. That is my son and he is the world champion.

Wightman shattered the Scottish record in a Diamond League competition two years ago and went on to win bronze in the discipline at the 2018 Commonwealth and European Games.

Last year, he was unhappy to place 10th in the Olympics, and he attributes it to spurring him on to win the biggest championship of his brief career.

According to sources, Wightman, after his marvelous run at the World Championships in Oregon, stated,

I was running for my life down the home straight.

It is still just shock and disbelief that this has actually happened. It probably won’t sink in until I have retired.
