Wounded mid-air by a bullet from the ground

A passenger on a Myanmar National Airlines flight was wounded when a gunshot fired from the ground struck him in mid-flight. The bullet had penetrated the fuselage of the plane.

After the jet touched down in Myanmar’s Loikaw, the passenger was transported to a hospital.

According to sources, the plane was flying at 3,500 feet and about four miles north of the airport. Following the event, the Loikaw headquarters of Myanmar National Airlines reported that all flights to the city had been cancelled indefinitely.

According to The Mirror, Myanmar’s military administration has accused rebels in the state of Kayah of shooting at the plane. However, rebel organisations disputed the charge.

According to Major General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for Myanmar’s ruling military council, the killing was carried out by “terrorists” from the Karenni National Progressive Party, an ethnic minority group fighting the government. He went on to say that the gang collaborated with their comrades in the People’s Defense Force, an armed pro-democracy force.

“This type of strike on a passenger jet is a war crime,” he told MRTV over the phone. “All people and organisations that wish peace must reject this problem.”

Since the army seized control in 2021, ousting Aung San Suu Kyi’s democratically elected government, Kayah has seen severe combat between the military and local resistance organisations.
